2025 Saltwater Pinot Noir
Mark on this one: think Vosne-Romanée — more delicate, rose petals, with length and a gentle tannin structure.
Single vineyard, Saltwater River, on the Tasman Peninsula just north-west of Port Arthur. Grown by Ian and Anne Hoyle.
It is the site we keep coming back to. The same patch of ground has been on our back labels every vintage since 2018, printed as a GPS coordinate so anyone who wants to can go and stand in it.
Across vintages, Saltwater tends to give a saline note through the middle of the wine that rounds out the fruit and carries the tannin and length on the back end. Set beside our Coal River Pinot Noir at the same price, Saltwater is the more Marsannay of the two; Coal River leans towards Nuits-St-Georges.
Saltwater River also produces grass-fed lamb with an earthy, almost truffled flavour, and it connects perfectly with a deep, powerful Pinot.
